Uses of PVC containment liners and how it helps in preventing contamination

Containment liners are in great demand and it has attributed to the sales figure to a great extent. The manufacturers of containment liners have seen an upsurge of profits in the recent times. It has also boosted up the PVC industry on the whole.  One of the most important reasons of these PVC containment liners being beneficial to the industry is that they are very versatile. The containment liners made out of poly vinyl chloride is quite amenable and that helps in providing high performance applications which require resistance and flexibility to abrasions, puncture and tears. Since these containment liners are made from high quality PVC, they provide toughness, durability as well as resistance to different types of chemicals. One of the strictest applications of the PVC containment liners is the portable water containment that requires passing a crucial test that involves critical guidelines.  The PVC containment liners have the certification of NSF standard 61 that addresses the critical aspects of the components of the drinking water system. This confirms the fact whether the contaminants that migrate or leach from the material in the drinking water are much above the satisfactory level in the finished waters.

Different types of containment liners are used for various purposes. Generally there are two types of containment liners used:

1  Primary containment liners: the applications of the primary containment liners include:

  • Bolted steel tanks
  • Welded steel tanks
  • Concrete sumps
  • Concrete vaults
  • Concrete tanks
  • Concrete and earthen pond liners

       2.   Secondary containment liners

  • Concrete and earthen containment dikes
  • Tank ringwalls
  • Slab liners and foundation
